Vixen S3 2500 1972

Model History

TVR offered a replacement for its V6 powered Vixen-Tuscan models in 1971, the new TVR 2500. The TVR 2500 used the tried and tested Triumph TR6 engine and gearbox which was already well established in the all important US market. The TR6's popularity in the US meant that the running gear was already homologated to meet all of the stringent emission laws, a real help for this small Blackpool company!

Due to the emission equipment the 2.5 litre six cylinder engine developed a modest 106bhp, although this was enough to deliver a top speed of over 110mph and a fuel consumption of around 30mpg. Like the other TVR's of this period the 2500 only remained in production for twelve months after 385 cars had been built.

Most TVR 2500’s went to the US, very rare in RHD, UK car

Standard Equipment

Toughened glass rear screen rare and expensive (not heated)

Royal Doulton Vinylex laminated windscreen

Additional Equipment

Race prepared engine, adjustable springs and braided brake hoses.

Glass Sunroof, additional dials, roll cage and red Luke four point harnesses

Interior

Black roof lining, black carpets with red leather edging and black padded dash.

Exterior

The body is in excellent condition with no crazing or cracks, unfortunately a vandal put a scratch on the bonnet and side, only paint deep.  The rest of the paint has some blemishes, rubbing on door edge as shown and a few chips

Wheels and Tyres

New wheels and 195/60 R15 87H BF Goodrich Comp T/A tyres

Engine and Transmission

Professional rebuilt TR6 Injection engine with the head skimmed and flowed by Cox & Buckles, new Vernier cam timing sprocket and fast road cam.  Reconditioned gearbox, diff and new clutch.  It will need at best new fuel seals in the metering unit and injectors, having been in storage for the past 9 years.

History

The car was on the road up until 1993, then subject to a body off renovation.  The chassis was galvanized and the body professionally prepared and painted, re-trimmed and the wheels reconditioned etc.   Then dry stored minus its original engine.  The last owner acquired the car in 2000 and decided to teach his son car mechanical engineering and the aim was to use the car as a club racer.  They fitted a professionally rebuilt race prepared TR6 engine, new clutch, reconditioned gearbox and diff, installed a fire wall to the engine bay, new suspension, brakes, wheels and tyres.  The son lost interest in becoming a mechanic and decided to become a doctor, the father put the car back into dry storage, about 9 years until now.  I’m told the car has only covered 300 carefully driven miles on the track, so is hardly run in.  After 9 years dry storage the car is still in good condition but need re-commissioning to get running again and back on track.

Road Test and Conclusion

Sadly not running and without MoT Certificate, so no road test.
